The Bhagavad Gita.
In his preface Gandhi describes the Bhagavad Gita as “Among the priceless teaching that may be found in the great Hindu poem of the Mahabharata, there is none so rare and precious as this, ‘The Lord’s Song’”. It is an Allegory of a battle that must be fought by Arjuna aided by his enighted charioteer Krishna. The most insightful translation with commentary recommended is by Paramahansa Yogaananda.
Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras
It consists of 196 Sutras (aphorisms) that explores fully the human condition and consciousness and maps the way towards the Divine Consciousness, including the Eight Fold Path of Yoga. Many translations and commentaries are available.
Hatha Yoga Pradipika:
Written in the sixteenth century by Yoga Swami Svatmarama is a classic work on Hatha Yoga.
